The NLCMF is a collaborative effort involving principle investigators,
(PIs), researcher fellows, students, and visiting scientists. Working
together, the NLCMF team learns how to synthesize and prepare materials.
The materials are then prepared at the NLCMF, and detailed preparation

Principal Investigators
Prof. Peter Palffy Prof. Peter Palffy is the director of the NLCMF as well as Associate Director
of the Liquid Crystal Institute. His research interest include:
LCE, negative index materials, mirrorless lasing in LC, failure and breakdown
Prof. Oleg Lavrentovich is the Director of the LCI, and his research
interests include topological and structural defects; electrooptic effects; surface phenomena; lyotropic systems
John West Prof. John West is Vice President of Research and Dean of Graduate Studies and also a Prof. at the LCI.
His research interests include liquid crystal—polymer composite systems and related electro-optical devices
Bahman Taheri is president and one of the founders of
Alpha Micron and is also an adjunct professor to the LCI
Prof. Patrick Mather is the Milton and Ann Stevenson Professor of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering
at Syracuse Univ. Prof. Mather's research interests include: Biodegradable Polymers, Shape Memory Polymers, Self-Healing Polymers, and
Liquid Crystalline Polymers and Elastomers
