Material characterization

Student research plays a central role in the research done at the NLCMF. Students at the Liquid Crystal Institute may elect to work for a semester or more at the facility  during their research rotations,  or for research credit. Students primarily work on materials characterization and applications.

While working at the facility, students select a LC material related research project. Under the guidance of Prof. Palffy, students are responsible for designing their experiment, learning how to prepare the materials used for the experiment, and analysis and interpreting the of results. SAt the end of the project, students present their work to LCI faculty and staff.

Alternatively, graduate students who elect to work in Prof. Palffy's research group undertake more extensive and long term research projects.
