Student research plays a central role in the research done at the NLCMF. Students at Kent State University or participants in the NSF sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) can work at the facility. Typically, students work at the facility for one semester during their research rotations or for research credit, but may continue to their research for longer periods of time. Students research involves materials characterization and applications, and under the guidance of Prof. Palffy, student researchers are responsible for designing their experiment, learning material preparation used for their experiments, and analysis and interpreting of results. At the end of the project, results of the research are presented to LCI faculty, staff, and students. Students wishing to undertake more extensive, longer term projects may elect to join Prof. Palffy's research group.

Summaries of student research are available for download as PowerPoint presentations. The presentations are organized according to the year when the students worked at the facility.
